For the first time ever, a train drove through the new railway tunnel of Delft on Saturday November 1st. It marked the next step in the city’s major redevelopment which puts the existing railway tracks underground, making room for a new station hall and municipal building by Mecanoo, and other new commercial and residential developments.
Testing of the railway tracks and systems will continue for a number of months, the opening of the Station hall and the first part of the municipal building is expected early 2015. Only then the former railway viaduct will be demolished and make room for the second part of the municipal building and extensive redevelopments around the station.
