The new school building for ID College and ROC Leiden was officially opened by the mayor of Leiden, Henri Lenferink, on Monday October 10. Designed by Mecanoo architecten and built by GiesbersGroep, the education facility is located in the heart of the historic city centre.
ID College and ROC Leiden offers inspiring secondary vocational training and education for the Leiden region. The institution is firmly rooted in the community, something the building exemplifies. A central alley runs through the complex, offering a publicly accessible connection between the Breestraat to Boommarkt. The transparent facades allow passers-by to view practice rooms and other public functions from the street and the atrium.
The location accommodates the vocational education for students in healthcare. Designed with flexibility in mind, the building anticipates new forms of education and changing spatial needs. The multifunctional layout can accommodate different individual and collective uses and includes workspaces for data collection, group work spaces, and common rooms for social interaction.
