HOME featured in the exhibition ‘Night Time Is The Right Time’

The developing cycles and rhythms of day/night make for ever more complex social and spatial compositions. From an urbanist perspective, 24-hour cities come with major inefficiencies and under-utilisation of building assets. Vast tracts of cities are ill-used by night, foregoing cultural and economic opportunities. This topic is celebrated and examined in the exhibition ‘Night Time Is The Right Time’ at The Building Centre in London from June 1 until August 15, 2017.
Manchester’s HOME, designed by Mecanoo, is one of the explanatory projects presented to give insight into the future of night-time in the global city. HOME, which opened in 2015, has become an incredibly popular gathering place for all generations. As the Arts Centre approaches its second birthday, it is about to welcome its two-millionth visitor. “It’s fascinating to me that you can open a venue of this kind and size and it can find its audience straight away in a difficult period,” Sheena Wrigley, executive director of Home, recently said in an article in the The Guardian.
‘Night Time Is The Right Time’ also shows the winning entries of an ideas competition, where entrants were invited to suggest better ways for cities to work as 24-hour places to live. The exhibition and associated event programme have been organised by The Built Environment Trust, with the support of the Mayor of London, and ties in with the London Festival of Architecture. The Building Centre is open on weekdays and Saturdays.
The exhibition opens tomorrow. Find out more here.
