Francine Houben will take on the position of Louis Kahn Visiting Professor at the Yale School of Architecture

In spring 2020, Francine Houben will teach an Advanced Design Studio at the Yale School of Architecture in New Haven, Connecticut, US. The studio will be led jointly by Francine Houben, Ruth Mackenzie, Isaäc Kalisvaart and George Knight.
The Yale School of Architecture is one of the constituent professional schools of Yale University and offers a range of postgraduate programmes. Its focus is on architectural design as a comprehensive creative process. The School of Architecture's mandate is for each student to understand architecture as a creative, productive, innovative, and responsible practice.
For the Advanced Design Studio, the Yale School of Architecture will be working closely with the Yale School of Drama (YSOD) and Yale School of Music (YSOM).
Francine and the students will be reconsidering the Opera of the Future. Research will focus on typology and transformation, performance, space, impact, technology as well as economics, sustainability and feasibility. Students will work in the US, as well as France and the Netherlands. The best projects will be presented at an exhibition and be subjected to public debate with the goal of implementation before the Paris Olympics 2024.
