Ex-Partner at Mecanoo Francesco Veenstra will succeed Floris Alkemade as Chief Government Architect on 1st September 2021. Jannemarie de Jonge (landscape architect and Partner at Wing) and Wouter Veldhuis (urban planner, architect and partner at MUST) will become Government Advisors for the physical living environment, starting on 1st December 2020. All three will be part of the Board of Government Advisers, providing central government with solicited and unsolicited advice on spatial issues in the living environment.
Educated at the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture, Francesco worked for 22 years at Mecanoo, is currently co-founder and partner of Vakwerk Architecten, and also chairman of the BNA. He has extensive experience in projects for cultural organizations, higher education, commercial real estate and infrastructure.
“First of all, we congratulate Francesco on this great honor” says BNA Director Fred Schoorl. “We really see this as a recognition for him, also for the work he did from the BNA. We are very proud.”
